Ardsley results
Great job by our club members at last week's Ardsley tournament:
Nick Palmieri and Justin Gluck both wrestled in the Novice Division in their second consecutive tournament. Justin caught a stud in the first round, but wrestled a great 2nd bout: always the aggressor on his feet, the match went into overtime and a failed shot was countered by a go-behind. Nick opened with a win to reach the semis, then lost to the eventual champ. He turned his opponent in the consi finals for a fall to gain a 3rd place and the Bronze medal.
Fredy Ramirez had a tough decision to make as he entered his first tourney: should I stay or should I go? He was the sole entry in his Novice weight bracket and could have walked away. Instead, he decided to move up to the Schoolboy division to face a tough bracket of six experienced middle schoolers. Fredy met the eventual champ in his first match and didn't last long, but adjusted his defense and made it into the second period against his next opponent. The decision to 'bump up' and his ability to scrap into the 2nd period against a clearly superior opponent shows how determined this 1st year wrestler can be.
James Mutino brought home a Gold in the 132 lb class of the Schoolboy division. 'Mute' has been with the club for three years and showed his experience by dominating the three man round-robin. He was unscored upon and built substantial leads before pinning both opponents, who both appeared to have experience levels commensurate with James. Neither expected to lose and seemed unhappy to be shut down in all facets of their offense.
Nice job guys.
Getting your hand raised is addictive, but getting mat experience is more important.
